Description of the Subjects
The description of the subjects section is typically three to four pages in length. In this section, you should give a detailed summary of who the subjects were in terms of relevant characteristics, for example, age, sex, ethnic group, and socio-economic status. You should describe in this section the general sampling procedure which was used to obtain the subject pool. For example, was the sampling technique random, systematic, haphazard or was no sampling used.
If the design of the study calls for several groups, for example, several experimental conditions and several control conditions, then you should present some tables which compare and contrast the groups on the relevant variables.
You should describe the subjects employed in the research and have some discussion of the degree to which the groups are similar or dissimilar. In this section, you should present statistical analyses which demonstrate that the groups are similar or dissimilar.
If your study is the type in which subjects may not complete the program either because they do not complete the test instruments or because they drop out, then you should present an analysis of the characteristics of the dropouts.
This analysis could employee tables which would contrast the drop-outs with the subject who remained in the program.
Your discussion of the subjects should present some analysis of the sample size used in the design and its adequacy.
