Delimitations of the Study
Delimitations are descriptions of the ways in which you have delimited the scope and focus of the project. In short, these are restrictions that you have imposed. The delimitations should not only be presented, but you should also describe how the delimitation may restrict your ability to extrapolate from the results. Typically, delimitations deal with restriction of the study to a geographic region, or to the study to a specific age grouping or with certain variables.
Limitations are descriptions of the restrictions, which have been imposed on the study that are beyond your control. Limitations should be discussed in the same way that delimitation were discussed. In short, note how the limitations will restrict your ability to extrapolate from the results.
Typically, limitations deal with restrictions such as:
1) the voluntary nature of the subjects;
2) inability to control all of the variables which may have influenced the outcomes;
and
3) limits imposed on the study by participating organizations.
